Random game

This game swaps mahjong tiles for playing cards. If you know how to play mahjong solitaire, you already know the rules. If not, they take ten seconds to learn.

How to play Mahjong Card Solitaire

  1. Cards are stacked in layers. A card is free when nothing lies on top of it and its left or right side is open.
  2. Click two identical free cards to remove them both.
  3. Keep matching pairs until the layout is empty.
  4. If you run out of moves, use the game’s shuffle or hint to keep going.
Tip from the table

Clear cards that sit on top of tall stacks first. Pairs on the edges are easy to reach later; the ones buried in the middle are what lose games.

About the game

Mahjong solitaire was popularised by the 1986 computer game Shanghai. Using cards instead of tiles makes the pairs much easier to spot, so it is a gentle way into the genre.

Controls are mouse or touch. Click or tap the cards and the buttons inside the game. Sound, hints and menus are handled by the game itself; if the table stays blank, press Restart or open it in a new tab.
